SEMH Teaching Assistant

Magisters Education are in search of an SEMH Teaching Assistant bfor a Secondary school based in South Tottenham.

This is a Behavioural Support/SEMH Teaching Assistant role with an ASAP start.

The ideal candidate will have the opportunity to work in this Secondary school with an excellent reputation in special education expertise, curriculum and resources.

A background in Youth Work, Behavioural support in Education, Social Work Sports organisations is ideal but not mandatory.

Requirements:

  • Special needs teaching assistants must have experience working with mental health problems and complex behaviours
  • Excellent behaviour management
  • Must have a current DBS and on the update service

Responsibilities:

  • Be able to build positive relationships with young people and staff
  • Supporting pupils with Social, emotional and mental health needs (SEMH)
  • Have proven experience working with pupils with SEMH / SEN in a school or alternative provision
  • Have the ability to differentiate work according to each child's individual needs
  • Be resilient, show enthusiasm and commitment
  • Have excellent organisational skills
  • Have excellent literacy and numeracy skills
  • Be responsible for the planning, delivery and monitoring of learning for your pupils
  • Be able to work on your own initiative

The main thing is that the SEMH Teaching Assistant is diplomatic, confident, unphased by challenging behaviour, and committed to building a good rapport with the student(s) with the aim of improving their outlook to both their academic pursuits and to their lives outside of the school environment.
