Are you an enthusiastic and qualified Support Worker looking for a rewarding permanent role in Newbury? This position offers a competitive salary of £35,000, ongoing professional development, and the opportunity to provide targeted support to pupils and families, particularly those experiencing Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored support to EBSA pupils, including 1:1 work, home and community visits, and regular check-ins.
  • Develop and implement individual support plans to aid pupil engagement and school re-integration.
  • Liaise closely with families, schools, and external agencies to coordinate a holistic package of support.
  • Lead group and individual parent/carer training sessions to build capacity and resilience.
  • Actively represent the provision in online forums and parent groups, sharing information, advice, and good practice.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of support provided, in line with school and safeguarding policies.
  • Contribute to the development of the alternative provision’s offer, working collaboratively as part of a small team.
  • Support the transition and re-integration process for pupils moving into mainstream or special schools.
  • Attend relevant meetings and training as required.
  • Uphold and promote the ethos, values, and policies of the provision at all times.

 

Role Requirements:

  • Relevant qualification in social work, youth work, education, or a related field (or willingness to work towards one)
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development relevant to supporting children, young people, and families
  • Experience supporting children or young people with social, emotional, and mental health needs (including EBSA)
  • Direct experience working with families, preferably in a school or alternative provision context
  • Experience of delivering training or workshops to parents/carers is desirable
  • Good understanding of EBSA and barriers to school attendance
  • Knowledge of strategies to support engagement, attendance, and re-integration into education
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and professionals
  • Good IT skills, including use of online forums and record-keeping systems
  • Knowledge of safeguarding procedures and commitment to promoting the welfare of children
