Key Responsibilities:

As an Administrator & Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead within a Magisters Alternative Provision in Newbury, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the provision while supporting safeguarding and pupil welfare.

Administration and Operations

  • Provide high-quality administrative support, managing office systems and maintaining accurate, confidential records
  • Coordinate communication with pupils’ home schools, families, and external professionals
  • Organise meetings, maintain documentation, and support the overall efficiency of the provision

Safeguarding and Pupil Welfare

  • Act as Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, supporting the DSL in managing safeguarding concerns and maintaining records
  • Promote a strong safeguarding culture and contribute to policy development and staff awareness
  • Support pupils with EBSA and additional needs, using a trauma-informed approach
  • Liaise with multi-agency professionals to support pupil wellbeing and outcomes

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Act as Fire Marshal, overseeing fire safety procedures, checks, and drills
  • Provide first aid support to pupils and staff, ensuring compliance and readiness
  • Maintain accurate safeguarding, medical, and compliance records
  • Support adherence to safeguarding, health and safety, and statutory requirements

General Duties

  • Demonstrate flexibility and resilience in a dynamic environment
  • Undertake additional duties as required to support the needs of the provision

You will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people at all times.

 

Key Job Requirements:

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Relevant administrative qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience in an administrative role, ideally within an education or alternative provision setting
  • Experience supporting vulnerable children or young people
  • Understanding of safeguarding procedures and willingness to undertake DSL training
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage confidential information
  • Good IT skills, including maintaining digital and paper-based systems
  • Ability to communicate effectively with pupils, families, and professionals
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare

 

Desirable Skills:

In addition to the necessary requirements, the following skills are desirable:

  • Experience working within alternative provision or with pupils with EBSA or SEND
  • Experience liaising with multi-agency professionals
  • Training in safeguarding, first aid, or fire safety (or willingness to obtain)
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practice and behaviour support strategies

You will also demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and a calm, professional approach, with a genuine commitment to supporting vulnerable young people.
